The Lougheed Art Sculpture

British Columbia,

Canada

The City of Lougheed is the second largest of four town centers in Burnaby, British Columbia.

Combining residential and commercial, it is a nexus of transit, shopping, restaurants, acres of parks, and displays of public artwork.

Developed by SHAPE Properties, The City of Lougheed is a 37-acre town center, focused on urban culture and community, that includes three public art displays within Neighborhood ONE – the culturally vibrant city center. The art pieces include, “Making Connections” by Squamish Nation artist Xwalacktun (Rick Harry), ‘Untitled (Heads)’ by Japanese American artist Jun Kaneko, and the ‘Illuminating Façade’, and Traxon e:cue was pleased to be a part of “Making Connections”.

“Making Connections (ESHLHIHKW’IWS)” is a collaboration between the Indigenous Canadian sculptor, Xwalacktun (Rick Harry); lighting designer Ellie Niakan at Introba; and the City of Lougheed. The art installation uses foreground and background light to add depth to Xwalacktun’s two-dimensional laser-cut steel sculpture that includes four Coast Salish eyes, a Thunderbird (the Creator), a salmon (sacred main staple), water (giver of life) and sky.

With the addition of Traxon ProPoint Linear White and RGBW, the 7-meter-tall piece is visible from many directions, while shining and inspiring visitors and residents alike.
