Software Developer Backend & 3D (m/w/d) for Lighting Control Systems

Imagine standing in New York, pointing up at the light show wrapping One World Trade Center, and saying: “I made that happen.”
At Traxon e:cue, that’s not a fantasy — it’s the job. We build the software that turns the world’s most iconic buildings into living canvases of light, and we’re looking for a developer to help us push it even further.

We’re a hidden champion based in Paderborn, and for over 25 years our technology has lit landmarks like the Christ the Redeemer statue in Rio and the Baku Flame Towers. Your work here won’t disappear into a screen no one sees — it goes up on buildings that millions of people look at every night.

Your Responsibilities

  • Own new features end to end — from a Scrum refinement conversation all the way to shipped, tested code
  • Be the technical sparring partner for the Product Owner as requirements take shape
  • Build our flagship 3D editor: a fast, intuitive tool that lets customers plan, commission, and maintain some of the largest lighting installations on the planet
  • Shape system architecture together with the team — and document it so it lasts
  • Keep raising the bar on the quality of everything we ship

What You Bring

  • Real, hands-on 3D ability — you’ve built with 3D graphics (a renderer, an engine, tools, shaders, visualisations, or games) and can show us your work. This is the core of the role
  • Strong programming fundamentals in an object-oriented language — ideally C#/.NET, though solid Java, Go, or Rust translates well — so you can turn 3D ideas into robust, maintainable software
  • Curiosity and the appetite to learn complex, unfamiliar domains quickly
  • Genuine team spirit — you like designing, building, and shipping software together
  • Fluent German and confident English — you’ll use both every day

Bonus points — none of these are dealbreakers

  • Specific mileage with Unity, Unreal, Godot, or Ab4d.SharpEngine, or with low-level graphics APIs like DirectX or Vulkan
  • Experience designing and documenting software architecture as part of a team
  • Comfort using, adapting, and extending build and CI infrastructure, plus Git or a similar version control system
  • SOLID principles, automated tests, and clean documentation that come naturally to you

These are bonuses, not gates. Missing a few? Apply anyway — we’d rather see strong 3D work and a sharp engineering mind than a fully ticked list.

What We Offer

Real ownership from day one, in a small, senior team where your decisions actually shape the product. You’ll take on hard, genuinely interesting problems — real-time 3D, performance, distributed control — alongside people who love solving them. Add a family-like culture with flat hierarchies, flexible working hours, and a hybrid model, an innovative and globally connected team, and the rare kind of work whose results you can literally point to on a skyline.

No classic background? Perfect.

You don’t need a computer-science degree or years at a big studio to be great at this. Plenty of outstanding 3D developers came up through games, the demoscene, technical art, VFX, simulation, or a side project they couldn’t stop building. If you can already work in 3D and you think like an engineer, we want to talk — however you got here.
